This is the main Help page for Mizo - FP Converter. On this page you will find
information on how to use FP Converter efficiently, using the default settings.
More details are discussed on the Settings and
FAQ pages.
First choose the directory where you original website resides. You can
enter the path directly into the text box, or browse to its location. If you
have converted any websites before, you will find the last 10 listed for you.
FP Converter will automatically propose an FTP destination directory for
you. If you have converted this website before, FP converter will remember its
FTP destination. You can change the destination directory to your liking, just
don't give it the same path as the source.
Next press the "Start Converting NOW !!!" button. FP Converter will now start processing your website.
When FP Converter finishes it will show you the number
of files it has converted. Now you can click on the reports button on the Quick Menu, to see detailed report about the conversion
process.
End Results of the Conversion Process
After the conversion process is completed, you will be
left out with the following :-
The source website will remain untouched.
The destination FTP directory you have chosen will contain
the converted version of the website. This is a fully working website that can
be uploaded directly to your web host.
Inside the FTP directory, you will find a file named "changes.ini",
which will contain all the changed that have been made since the last
conversion process, including changed files, added files and deleted files.
You can access this contents of this file from the report view.
Any files that were deleted from the source website will also
be automatically deleted from the FTP site. You can find a report about
the deleted files in the "changes.ini" file inside the FTP directory.
A new directory will also be created. This will be named the same as
the FTP directory but the word "-uploads" will be
appended to the FTP's directory name. This new directory will reside in
the same path as the FTP target directory.
The Uploads directory will only contain the files that have
been changed or added. They will be divided into the same directory structure
as the FTP directory. This is done to facilitate the process of
uploading your website. After making any changes, you can just upload the
Uploads directory to your web host, thus only uploading the changed files.
This will save you a LOT of time on uploading and managing your
website.
The uploads directory will also contain a "changes.ini"
file, which will contain all the changes made to the Uploads directory
including changed files, added files and a list of deleted files.
Next time you convert your website, FP Converter will
put a copy of the changed files in the uploads directory. It will also
update the "changes.ini" file. This process is incremental, thus the
Uploads directory will not be deleted every time you convert your website.
This allows you to convert your website many times without loosing
the previous changes.
Now use your FTP program to upload the Uploads Directory, and
you will have an updated version of your website, by only updating the changed
files. Don't forget to check the "changes.ini" file for deleted files,
and delete them manually from your web host.
After you have uploaded your website successfully, you can safely
delete the Uploads directory. This will give you a fresh start for you
next upload.
Now you can check out the different
settings you can change to tweak FP Converter's work.
